Merieke has worked within this sector for almost 10 years. Merieke has experience and is trained in working with both sides. Meaning she has worked intensively with people who have behaved in coercive and or abusive in their intimate relationship(s) s as well as with the people who are or have been experiencing coercive control/ abuse. This can be partner, parent, sibling, child, etc relationships. Amongst others, she has worked within a residential setting as well as a mandatory Behaviour Change Program in the Community. This has given her deeper insights into the dynamics as well as that positive changes within the person is very possible and feasible. One of her aims is to demystify some of the misconceptions around this.
She also has worked as a residential Carer for Department of Communities, a reunification counselor (reuniting children with parents whereby children had been removed by child protection), and at-risk youth.
Merieke continues to offer this kind of support in her private practice working where needed with government departments and or other third parties.
